England Tour of West Indies: England vs West Indies 4th T20I Match Preview

West Indies are anticipated to emerge victorious against England, having triumphed in three of their previous five meetings. The series might be won by the hosts with one more victory. The fourth Twenty20 International (T20I) between West Indies and England is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, December 20, in Tarouba, Trinidad’s Brian Lara Stadium. The series consists of five matches.

The hosts lost the third meeting as England won one to make it 1-2 after winning the previous two and building a commanding lead in the series. The two teams fought hard, and in the end, the visitors were able to rally to salvage a victory and advance in the series.

In the previous game, England won the toss and chose to field first against the West Indies. Following the loss of the first two overs of the powerplay by Brandon King and Kyle Mayers, Nicholas Pooran emerged as a major player at the bat, smashing a 45-ball 82-run score that included six fours and as many sixes. The Windies scored 222 runs in their allotted 20 overs thanks to respectable efforts from the middle-order hitters.

England, however, got off to a fantastic start as Jos Buttler and opener Phil Salt put up a 115-run partnership before the latter left the pitch with 51 runs (34 balls) in the 12th over. Phil Salt was unbeatable, reaching a century and staying undefeated at 109*(56).

On the penultimate delivery of the match, Harry Brook’s incredible 7-ball 31* enabled England to secure a thrilling victory. As England made up for its first two losses, he scored 24 runs off the first five deliveries of the last over.

Head to Head

Both teams have some big hitters in their ranks but they might have to work a little bit harder for their runs. In the four matches played at the venue during this year’s Caribbean Premier League, the average first-innings score was 163. Three out of the four games were won by teams batting second.

Since 2007, there have been 27 T20I matches between the West Indies and England. With 16 victories to England’s 11 triumphs, the Men in Maroon have had the better of the English team.

Pitch & Weather Report:

The Brian Lara Stadium’s surface is well distributed, providing bowlers and hitters with similar support. If the captain wins the toss, he should bat first and try to score as much as possible.

On the day of the match, the weather will be about 26 degrees Celsius with a little risk of rain. However, it is anticipated that a full 20-over-a-side game will be played.

Having won three of their last five encounters against England, West Indies will be expected to come out as the stronger side. The hosts are just a win away from clinching the series. The series is intriguingly poised as the action shifts to Trinidad. This is another do-or-die encounter for England and they would be upbeat about their chances after pulling off a memorable win in the last encounter.
