France cruised to a 4-0 win over Morocco in the round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Tuesday at Coopers Stadium in Adelaide, Australia. Early in the first half, France scored three goals. Forward Kadidiatou Diani started the scoring in the 15th minute, after her hat trick in the group stage finale. Kenza Dali scored the game’s second goal in the 20th minute, and Eugénie Le Sommer scored in the 23rd. Le Sommer added a second goal in the second half to secure France’s victory and put an end to Morocco’s miraculous run to the knockout phase. France will face host country Australia next.

With star Sam Kerr playing again, the Matildas defeated Denmark in their round of 16 match. France easily defeated Morocco to go to the Women’s World Cup quarterfinals, ending the African team’s incredible run. Eugenie Le Sommer scored twice in the victory.

At halftime in Adelaide, France led 3-0 thanks to goals from Kadidiatou Diani, Kenza Dali, and Le Sommer. Le Sommer added a second goal after 70 minutes.  France, which is ranked 67 places higher than Morocco in Fifa’s world rankings, made their superiority clear early on when Dianni headed them in ahead following a nice cross from Sakina Karchaoui, who also scored her fourth goal of the season. Dianni switched roles in the 20th minute, cutting the ball back to Dali of Aston Villa, who sent a low effort into the corner.
