FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023: Germany Crashed Out of the Tournament After 1-1 Draw with South Korea

In the greatest upset of the competition, Germany, the defending champions, were eliminated from the Women’s World Cup group stages after drawing with South Korea.

For the first time in their history, Germany has not advanced to the round of sixteen.

As one of the pre-tournament favorites, Germany was aware that they needed to advance in Group H by bettering Morocco’s performance against Colombia; nonetheless, Morocco prevailed 1-0 in that encounter.

Few people would have guessed that Germany would be out of the World Cup after just three games in Australia and New Zealand, but this tournament has already been full of surprises.

Currently ranked second in the world, they have won back-to-back titles in 2003 and 2007 and have finished ahead of their group in eight of their nine tournament appearances.

Nevertheless, after starting the tournament with a 6-0 victory over Morocco, they appeared unsteady at the back and were making too many errors when in possession of the ball.

They were nearly eliminated as they got ready for their last encounter against South Korea after being penalized by Colombia in their second match, losing 2-1.

South Korea vs Germany match ended with 1-1, resulting in the elimination of both teams from the tournament.
