Lanka Premier League 2023: Dambulla Outperformed Jaffna Kings to Win the Match by 9 Runs

In the match 11 of Lanka Premier League 2023 played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Dambulla Aura & Jaffna Kings locked horns. Jaffna Kings won the toss & invited Dambulla Aura to bat first. However, things didn’t go well for them as they lost two in the first over before wasting a lot of time. After a third-wicket stand of 51 between Perera and Samarawickrama, wickets started to fall frequently. They were only able to reach a strong finish because to a few hits from Hayden Kerr, Noor Ahmad, and Hasan Ali. Shoaib Malik, who just arrived for Jaffna yesterday, excelled on the field and with the ball for his team. Outstanding 2/13 numbers for him. Dambulla have scored 49 runs in their past five overs, bringing their total up to 134. While this total doesn’t seem particularly high, it at least provides them a target to bowl at. The majority of the innings before that were merely a fight. Run outs were many, the batting was subpar, and there was no conviction.

In the run chase, Jaffna couldn’t do much and looked sluggish throughout the inning. They just needed 135 in 20 overs but never got off to a good start. During the powerplay, they lost four wickets, and they scarcely recovered after that. There wasn’t much of a partnership between Malik and Wellalage. Hasan Ali took three wickets for Dambulla, and those wickets did certainly break Jaffna’s batting order.  Jaffna had a little fun in the final over when Malik went all out, but for the other 19 overs, they were constantly chasing the game. The NRR has not taken too much damage thanks to a few lusty hits from Shoaib Malik, but Jaffna have botched this chase.  Jaffna has now lost twice in a row. They would feel cheated because 135 ought to have been apprehended. However, the batters were stressed out and without any serious strategies.
