Lanka Premier League 2023: Kandy Reaches The Final By Winning Qualifier 2 by 34 Runs

In the Qualifier 2, B-Love Kandy and Galle Titans came face to face. Kandy won the toss and opted to bat first. Kandy scored 157-7 in 20 overs.The final three overs produced 43 runs. At the toss, skipper Hasaranga felt good enough to defend with the score just 3 short of 160. Will the Titans’ 18th over by Dinusha come back to bite them? He handed up 25 in the third over, which gave Kandy some much-needed momentum as they lost three wickets in the next five overs. Hasaranga had leg problems during batting but nevertheless played a fantastic knock.

In order to chase down a difficult target, Galle got off to a quick start, hitting 37/0 in just 4 overs, with Litton taking the initiative. The Titans fell from 38/0 to 45/3 as Chaturanga castled Litton for 25 in his first over, losing three wickets in that span of three overs. For the fourth wicket, Shakib and Dinusha added 28 runs, but they did so slowly. Bandara dropped Shakib off Arachchige’s bowling when he had him on 11, but the Bangladeshi all-rounder eventually holed out at deep mid-wicket for 17. Najibullah was eliminated by Hasaranga, who then defeated Hasnain in the very next over.

Galle never had a chance to approach the target because Kandy tightly controlled the scoring rate and frequently took wickets. Kandy were already in trouble at 20/3 within the powerplay. Hasaranga, who played on almost one leg, led his team in scoring with a 30-ball 48 that raised the total past 150. The Kandy skipper came out to bowl despite having a hamstring ailment and finished with 2/21. As Kandy easily defended their score, Chaturanga and Hasnain both showed skill with the ball.
