Lanka Premier League 2023: Lasith Croospulle’s Half-Century Went Into Vain as Dambulla Aura Won the Match to Reach Final

Dambulla Aura and Galle Titans came against each other in the Qualifier 1 of LPL 2023 at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Dambulla Aura won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Rajapaksa and Croospulle came to bat and Binura Fernando opened the bowling attack. In the 1st over, Rajapaksa got out for a duck on the second ball and Litton Das hit a four on the fourth ball and it was the first boundary of the match. In the 2nd over, Croospulle smashed three fours.  In the 4th over, Litton Das got out after scoring 8(7) on the first ball. After 6 overs, GLT was at 45-2.

In the 7th over, Shakib hit a four on the second ball and Croospulle finished the over with a four. In the 10th over, Shakib took a single and the partnership between Lasith Croospulle and Shakib Al Hasan reached 50 runs. Shakib got out after scoring 19(17) on the third ball. In the 11th over, Croospulle scored a half-century on the first ball and Shanaka smashed a six on the second ball. After 12 overs, GLT was at 93-3.

In the 13th over, Shanaka got out after scoring 12(8) on the first ball and Najibullah got out after scoring 2(3) on the fourth ball. In the 14th over, GLT reached 100 runs. In the 17th over, Lahiru Samarakoon hit a four on the third ball and got out after scoring 15(12) on the next ball and Croospulle finished the over with a four. In the 19th over, Croospulle got out after scoring 8(5) on the third ball and Kumara got out for a duck on the fifth ball. In the 20th over, Rajitha got out after scoring 80(61) on the fifth ball and Shamsi got out for a duck on the last ball.

In 20 overs, Galle Titans scored 146 runs with a loss of 10 wickets.

Chasing 147 runs, Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis came to bat and Rajitha opened the bowling attack. In the 1st over, Fernando finished the over with a six and it was the first boundary of the second innings. In the 2nd over, Kusal Mendis opened his account with a four on the third ball with a four. In the 3rd over, Avishka Fernando hammered back-to-back two sixes. In the 4th over, Avishka Fernando hit a four on the third ball and got out after scoring 24(14) on the fourth ball. In the 6th over, Kusal Mendis finished the powerplay with a four. After 6 overs, DMA was at 44-1.

In the 7th over, Samarawickramav hit a four on the fifth ball and DMA reached 50 runs. In the 9th over, Samarawickrama got out after scoring 13(15) on the third ball. In the 12th over, Kusal Perera hit two fours on the second ball and fifth ball, respectively. After 12 overs, DMA was at 85-2.

In the 13th over, Kusal Perera hit a four on the second ball. In the 14th over, Kusal Perera hit a six on the fifth ball and DMA reached 100 runs. In the 15th over, Kusal Mendis hit a four on the fourth ball. After 15 overs, DMA was at 111-2.

In the 16th over, Kusal Mendis took a single on the third ball and the partnership between Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera reached 50 runs. Kusal Mendis got a four on the fifth ball due the miscommunication within the fielder. In the 18th over, Kusal Perera smashed back-to-back two boundaries – one four and one six and Kusal Mendis got out after scoring 49(45) on the fifth ball. He missed his well-deserved half-century by 1 run. In the 19th over, Kusal Perera hammered a six on the third ball and scored a half-century and Dhananjaya took a double on the last ball and leveled the score. In the 20th over, Kusal Perera got out after scoring  53(39) on the first ball and DMA scored 147-4 and won the match by 6 wickets.
